Nestled in the Flint Hills, Manhattan, Kansas is a quaint college town with opportunities for outdoor adventures, exciting nightlife, big time college sports, and a unique shopping experience. Manhattan is for those looking for excitement, new learning, and entrepreneurial activity. The overall experience leaves you with an acknowledgement of where you have been, but unencumbered by the typical strains of everyday life. We are proud of where we have been, who we are - students, soldiers, active citizens - AND we aspire towards something not quite realized.

Following the success of InciteMHK’s first several murals, there is a growing interest in and desire for public art. There have been a series of projects in both the Downtown and Aggieville business districts that have demonstrated the role public art can have in our community. The City of Manhattan has also commissioned a series of sculptures during this time period, displayed along 3rd St in the downtown corridor, that effectively provide a sense of space and place for the Manhattan community.

Incite is commissioning the creation of a new mural located between an existing mural of Ruth Bader Ginsburg and an as-yet created mural (coming in April 2021). A successful mural design will compel visitors and locals alike to stop and explore the downtown business district. Our goal is to create a growing sense of curiosity and exploration through public art that inspires new ideas, reflection, and action. Community members and visitors should be drawn to the public art, and invited to take advantage of the walkable downtown district for shopping, entertainment and local fares. This piece should create a sense of community that draws people in and connects them to the amenities the area has to offer.

The wall is located on the North side of the MidTown Plaza building located at 116 S 4th St. The mural will begin adjacent to the east edge of the existing RBG mural and will extend 22 feet to the east, towards Fourth Street.  The mural will not extend all the way to Fourth Street, as another mural is planned for that space. The mural will be on a 22 foot wide by 15 foot tall section of the exterior, cinder block wall. Please see photographs on this page for further clarification. This location is prominently viewable to pedestrians and vehicles, as well as to patrons of the popular breakfast restaurant, The Chef, located across the street.

We are so glad that you are interested in our project! If you have questions or need additional information please let us know. Email Jeff Sackrider - or call or text to (785) 456-9900.
